Organisation profile

The Parole Board of Canada (PBC) is an independent administrative tribunal that, as part of the Canadian criminal justice system, makes quality conditional release and record suspension decisions, and clemency recommendations. The PBC contributes to the protection of society by facilitating, as appropriate, the timely reintegration of offenders as law-abiding citizens. Public safety is the primary consideration in all PBC décisions.

Services

• Legal information service for victims of crime. Information on the legal process with respect to prisons. Ability for a victim to obtain information on the process involving the offender who committed the act. Available free of charge. Service provided by phone. Call 1 866 789-4636 (toll-free). To request information on an offender, obtain the application form by phone or on their website.

• Legal information to guide those applying for record suspensions (formerly pardons) in the necessary steps. Processing of applications. The information service is available free of charge. Services provide by phone and e-mail (suspension@pbc-clcc.gc.ca). The application form, fact sheets and an explanatory video are available on their website.

• Legal information service on the prison system. Available free of charge. Service provided by phone.

• Ability to consult rulings issued by the Parole Board of Canada. Available free of charge by filling out an application. The form is found in their website.
